Put some Spring in your step!

I've been a bit quiet recently as I've been working hard on giving my shop a long overdue facelift. I recently organised a photoshoot for my products & I'm now in the process of selecting & uploading all the new images. I'm really happy with the results & hopefully you guys will love them too! Here's a few for now...

The Cat Boat

As promised here are some of the images I took whilst visiting the Poezenboot. A rescue home for stray and abandoned cats, it is based on a little boat moored on one of the beautiful canals in Amsterdam (I know, it sounds like something out of a fairytale).

Full of toys, beds and cosy spots to hide in the boat is a haven for felines which, until recently, have had a less than happy life. Most of the cats were very shy and didn't seem to trust people but you could tell they were all very content with their surroundings and with each other. A tiny black cat took a particular liking to me and I spent a lot of time scratching him behind his ears.

There was an outdoor section which was very safe to prevent the cats from falling overboard (!) and they seemed to have a lot of fun teasing the swans which swam up every now and then for a curious peak.

The people working there are doing a fantastic job at caring for the animals, welcoming visitors and keeping everything spotlessly clean. Head on over to their website if you'd like to find out more or make a donation.

Hello January

Illustration by me, inspired by my kitten Daphne

So far January has welcomed us with rather wet and windy arms. The sky is indigo and the rain has been frequent, washing clean the pavement and, in turn, washing the slate clean as people's minds turn to new year's resolutions and self improvement.

Personally, I’m not one for making new year's resolutions (mostly because I’ve always given up on them by mid February!) but I think it’s healthy and good practice to reflect on the past year and take time to consider positive changes or goals for the new.

One thing I particularly enjoyed and felt was beneficial to both my business and myself in 2011 were the various events at which I sold my work during the lead up to Christmas. Not only did I make a huge amount of sales (far more than I expected!) but I also made a lot of useful contacts and, as a bonus, I met some truly lovely and inspiring people along the way.

I’ll share with you a little story about one of my customers that I found rather surprising and encouraging. He saw someone with my Tipsy Badger Tote Bag on the tube and knew his girlfriend should have it as she attends a university in America where the mascot is a badger. Somehow he managed to track me down and had me send it to her with a sweet little note ready for her trip to Europe. I love the fact that my design has touched someone’s life in such a special and thoughtful way, at the end of the day that’s what its all about.

With the new year now here I have reminded myself of some of my working practices and goals that I need to keep in mind- aiming high, staying motivated and making the most of every opportunity. This year I will also be pushing myself further with my work and trying things that previously felt a little out of my reach or comfort zone.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on changes you will be making for 2012 and, most of all, I want to wish you a very happy new year. I hope it is full of wonderfully new and exciting experiences!

Snow Sprinkled

One of my cat illustrations that didn't quite make the cut when I was producing my latest Christmas card range

December is upon us and, despite the Christmas rush, I can't help but secretly think it would be quite nice to be snowed in right now. Hot toddy in one hand, a good book in the other and, of course, a roaring fire to keep away the frostbite!

Well I can't quite bring you that but I can bring you some wonderfully wintery snow sprinkled goodies from some very talented people, take a peak below...
